Is the Fitbit Charge 5 Waterproof?

If you’re using the Fitbit Charge 5 fitness tracker, you may be wondering whether the Charge is waterproof. It’s an important question because you’re probably planning to wear the band most of the day. If you have to take the device off to wash your hands or shower, that would be inconvenient

The good news is that the Fitbit Charge 5 is waterproof. It’s totally fine to use the device while you’re in the shower, taking a bath, or washing your hands. Likewise, if you wear it out in the rain it won’t be a problem.

Don’t believe me? I dunked my hand with a Fitbit charge five in running water to show you that the device is indeed waterproof. Personally, I wear it almost 24 hours a day, and shower with it on a daily basis.

Can you wear the Fitbit Charge 5 in the pool?

OK, so you can splash a little water on the Charge and it won’t be an issue. What about if you take it in the pool?

Taking the device into the pool is not a problem. In fact, it even has a Swim mode that I can use to track your swims. If you’re snorkeling or doing another water sport, you’re fine too.

You can take the device down to 50 meters under water according to Fitbit. Unless you’re a serious scuba diver, you should be fine.

What do I do after getting the device wet?

If you get your Fitbit Charge 5 wet, it’s a good idea to take some steps afterwards, to prolong its life and keep your skin safe. Take it off your wrist and dry it well. If it came into contact with something other than fresh water, rinse it with fresh water before using it again. Periodically clean it with a soap free cleaner. Cetaphil is a great option.

Make sure to clean your device more frequently if you tend to get shampoo or soap on it, or after any time you take it in the ocean and expose it to salt water.

Those are good precautions to take if you’re traveling with the Charge 5 or otherwise get it especially dirty. For day-to-day usage, though, getting some water on the device is no problem at all
