Saving money and reducing your environmental footprint just got easier with the Eco Mode feature on your Nest Thermostat.
This mode allows you to quickly switch to a setting that will save you money and help the environment. Whether you are using heat or cold, Eco Mode is a great way to save energy and some cash.
How to Use Eco Mode
To use Eco Mode, press the thermostat and go to the leaf icon that says “Eco”.
Press again and it will ask if you want to start Eco Mode on one or multiple Nest Thermostats. Once you’ve selected the right option, you’ll see it switch to Eco Mode with the words “eco” displayed.

The thermostat will also tell you the range of temperatures it will keep your space within. This range can be set in the Nest app. You can tweak it to save money when power is expensive.
The app defaults towards temperatures which will save you money and reduce your heating and cooling costs. For example, I set my eco mode to 68 for the low end and 76 for the high end.
When to Use Eco Mode on the Nest Thermostat
Eco Mode is great for a variety of uses. For example, if you are leaving the house, using eco mode will save you money and reduce the use of natural gas. Your Nest Thermostat doesn’t have a camera, but it uses a magnetic occupancy sensor to know when you’ve left.
It can also be used during peak times when electricity is more expensive; you can preemptively switch to eco mode to reduce your usage and save money. Not only will this save you money, but it’s also good for the environment since peak times tend to use more dirty power plants to meet demand.

Using Eco Mode is easy and efficient. All it takes is a few seconds to switch to the setting, and you’ll be helping the environment and your wallet.
The temperature range can also be adjusted to be even more energy efficient – 65 on the low end and 80 on the high end will save even more energy and money. So go ahead and start using Eco Mode today!
