How do you replace a track lighting ceiling light? GU10 Bulb, No Ladder

Changing the track light bulbs on high-up track lights can be challenging due to their height and difficult accessibility. However, with the right tools and tips, you can change these bulbs safely and easily.

In this blog post, we will show you how to change GU10 bulbs on high-up track lights using a Stauber bulb changer – a suction cup-based device that is both efficient and easy to use.

Here’s a video of the process.

What You’ll Need

– Burned out GU10 bulbs
– Stauber bulb changer
– Utility pole or broomstick
– New GU10 bulbs

Step 1: Attach the Stauber Bulb Changer to Utility Pole

The first step is to attach the Stauber bulb changer to the end of a utility pole or broomstick. The bulb changer easily screws onto the pole, and can be tightened using the included wing nut. This allows you to reach the high-up track lights without the need for a ladder.

Step 2: Prepare the Bulb Changer for Use

Once the bulb changer is securely attached to the utility pole, you’ll need to connect the small string that comes with the Stauber bulb changer. This string will be used to release the suction cup from the bulb later on in the process. Ensure that the string is securely attached before proceeding.

Step 3: Remove the Burned-Out Bulb

Now that your Stauber bulb changer is set up, you can proceed to remove the burned-out track light bulb. Carefully raise the utility pole, making sure that no one is standing underneath the light fixture. Press the suction cup firmly against the bulb, and turn the pole counterclockwise until the bulb comes out of the socket.

Once the bulb is successfully unscrewed, lower the utility pole carefully, ensuring that the bulb doesn’t fall. Finally, remove the old bulb from the suction cup.

Step 4: Attach the New Bulb

With the old bulb removed, you’re now ready to install the new GU10 bulb. Press the new bulb onto the suction cup, ensuring that it is securely attached. Give the bulb a gentle pull to confirm that it’s properly connected to the suction cup.

Step 5: Install the New Bulb

Carefully raise the utility pole with the new bulb attached, and align the bulb with the empty socket on the track light. Once the bulb is in place, turn the pole about a quarter turn clockwise to secure the bulb in the socket.

Step 6: Release the Suction Cup

To release the suction cup from the new bulb, simply pull on the attached blue string. This will release the suction cup from the bulb, allowing you to lower the utility pole back down.

Conclusion

By using a Stauber bulb changer and a utility pole, you can easily and safely change the GU10 bulbs on your high-up track lights. Follow these simple steps and keep your track lighting in perfect working order, no matter how high your ceilings are.

Let’s take a look at how to change the track light bulbs on a very high up track light. These are GU10 bulbs; you can see I’ve got a bunch of these burned out. It’s too high up to reach.

We’re gonna use this little Stauber bulb changer. It’s a really cool little suction cup based device and we can attach it to the end of a utility pole. It screws on. We can use this little wing nut to tighten it. You can use any standard utility pole, or even the end of a broomstick if you don’t have one. Then there’s just this little kind of string thing that attaches to it – that’s what we’re gonna use to release the bulb later.

But for now we’re gonna carefully raise this up, making sure no one’s standing under the bulb, obviously. Press the suction cup against the bulb and turn it counterclockwise until the bulb comes out. Carefully lower it back down again, making sure it doesn’t fall. Take that old bulb off.

Now we’re gonna take our new bulb, press it onto that suction cup so that it’s nice and solid. Give it a little pull to make sure it’s good. Then we’ll just raise it up and pop it into the socket. Turn it about a quarter turn clockwise and pull on that little blue string – this will release the suction cup and we can just lower it back down again.

And that’s the basic process. It makes it super easy. I did that with all four of my bulbs that were burned out up there. You can see now my track light has nice new bulbs in it and it works up to some very high ceilings.
