According to Ring, the ideal battery life for your video doorbell is 10 to 12 months. However, this estimate may not match your actual experience with the device. In this blog post, we’ll discuss the factors that can contribute to a lower battery life and provide some realistic expectations for how long your Ring doorbell battery may last.
Factors Affecting Battery Life
Your battery life might be significantly less than the official estimate due to certain factors:
1. Cold temperatures: If you use the Ring doorbell in a particularly cold region (below freezing point), it’s likely to drain the battery more quickly.
2. Using live view feature: Frequently using live view reduces battery life.
3. High levels of activity: If your doorbell faces a busy road, experiences frequent deliveries or visits, the battery life may be affected due to frequent camera activations.
Depending on these factors, the actual battery life can vary between two weeks and four to six weeks. Based on my personal experience and user reports, a more realistic expectation might be around four to six weeks, especially for those who use the live view function frequently or have a busy front door.
Tips to Prolong Battery Life
Considering the factors mentioned above, here are some tips to help extend the life of your Ring video doorbell’s battery:
1. Minimize live view usage: Limit your use of the live view feature to conserve battery life.
2. Adjust motion settings: Fine-tune the motion detection settings to limit unnecessary activations, such as picking up cars passing by.
3. Consider hardwiring: If you live in an area with constant vehicular traffic or frequent visitors, hardwiring your Ring doorbell may be a better option to get consistent power and avoid replacing or recharging the battery.
For infrequent users or those living in areas with mild climates and limited activity, the 10 to 12 months battery life estimate might be possible. However, for a more realistic expectation, plan to recharge your Ring doorbell’s battery every four to six weeks.
Conclusion
While the official battery life estimate from Ring may not always be true, understanding the factors that contribute to reduced battery life can help you have more realistic expectations. Adjust your device’s settings, minimize the use of live view, and consider hardwiring the doorbell if necessary. With these tips, you can ensure that your Ring video doorbell is always ready at your doorstep.

Im Tom from DIY Life Tech and this is an answer to the question of how long the battery in your Ring Video Doorbell will last.
You have the option to power your doorbell from a hardwire connection or with a battery that goes inside of the bottom of the doorbell. According to Ring, the ideal battery life is 10 to 12 months. However, based on my own experience and reports from users, the actual battery life is often much less.
Factors that can contribute to a lower battery life include:
-Using the doorbell in cold areas (below freezing)
-Using the live view feature
-Having a lot of activity at your door (deliveries, visitors, or cars passing by)
My own experience is usually four to six weeks for the battery. I don’t live near a road, but I do get a lot of activity at the door and I use the live view function. I would suggest aiming for four to six weeks for battery life and plan to recharge it about once a month or a month and a half.
